David Baxter

David is the Founder of Wigan & Leigh Community Cooperative (formerly Abram ward Community cooperative), supporting a Place Based approach to growing the Social Economy sector in Wigan Borough. Over the last 5 years, they have been 1 of 6 organisations nationally funded by Power To Change on their Empowering Places programme, focusing on the Abram Ward neighbourhood.

From this they now offer services from Community Ownership, Community Organising and providing Education programme to raise awareness of Social Enterprise opportunities.  To support this they created the brand 'Made in Wigan'. They also led on the campaign for Wigan to be designated as a Social Enterprise Place via SE UK. They also lead on the Wigan Social Enterprise network, and are leads on the Proper Good programme from Wigan as part of the wider GM partnership. They also sit on the Wigan Community Wealth building Anchor partnership and Wigan Enterprise Board, aiming to raise awareness and grow opportunities for Social Enterprises across all sectors and with the local community.
