Survey: The Importance of Including Equalities Partners in Emergency Planning and Resilience

This survey will help us understand how organisations respond to emergencies, support communities, and connect with local planning mechanisms. Your insights will guide improvements in emergency planning and support.

Disasters can affect some groups more than others, often due to existing inequalities in our communities. Factors like socioeconomic status, health, age, sex, gender, sexuality, race, care responsibilities, location, social connections, access to services, physical ability, and personal experiences all play a role in how people prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

For emergency planning to work for everyone, we need to consider these different needs—like providing information in accessible formats and languages, safe places to evacuate to, and support that respects cultural and individual needs.

Recent events like the Grenfell Tower fire, COVID-19, and flooding across Greater Manchester have shown there are still gaps in meeting these needs during a crisis.

The Greater Manchester Resilience Unit is reaching out to VCFSE organisations, especially those working with communities most affected by these issues. We want to learn from your insights through a short survey to start to help us make emergency planning more inclusive.
