Population Health in Greater Manchester – The Journey So Far by the King’s Fund
The success of a devolved and cross-sector approach to population health comes in light of a new report published by national think tank, the King’s Fund which praised Greater Manchester and the ten local boroughs for its work to improve key measures of health and health inequalities.
The King’s Fund called Greater Manchester “the poster child for devolution” in England and has recognised the time, effort and resources put in place by local government, NHS Greater Manchester, and the mayoral office, to help people to live good lives, improve wellbeing and prevent illness. It shows how health is influenced by wider determinants such as high‑quality and secure housing, a good job and a healthy environment and emphasises the importance of improving both the economic and health status of the population.
