Pay and Conditions Survey Reveals Key Insights for VCSE Sector
10GM Pay and Conditions Survey
Research on the GM VCSE Workforce showed that salary is one of the most prominent barriers to recruitment in the sector. Salaries are not representative of the skills and knowledge needed for the role, and record levels of inflation and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis is continuing to put financial pressure on VCSE organisations - it’s no surprise that salary expectations are more crucial to jobseekers than ever.
In response to this research, 10GM have been gathering information about pay and conditions in Greater Manchester’s VCSE Organisations. This survey will really help us to understand where the sector stands with pay and conditions compared to other sectors, it will help drive improvements, and provide support for the sector with salary benchmarking.
A huge thank you to everyone who completed the recent Pay and Conditions Survey to gather information about current pay scales, benefit packages, and broader opinions on HR and workforce in VCSE organisations in Greater Manchester. 10GM received a total of 75 responses from organisations across the sector!
Key Findings:
- Real Living Wage: A significant 77% of respondents paid the Real Living Wage, with 59% being formally registered as RLW employers but financial pressures are challenging this commitment, particularly with the new uplift to £12 per hour.
- Wage Compression: The rise in the National Living Wage has caused wage compression, reducing the pay gap between entry-level and management roles, leading to budgeting issues.
- Employee Benefits: Popular benefits include training, flexible work, and mental health support, though higher benefits like health insurance remain less common.
- Salary Data: Median salaries vary across roles, with CEOs earning a median of £50,000, while community and support roles earn less.
These findings illustrate the financial strain on VCSE organisations, highlighting difficulties in maintaining competitive wages due to the rising cost of living and wage inflation.
