Opportunity: GM Children’s & Young People’s Board
The rep appointment process for the GM Children’s & Young People’s Board is open.
Introduction
The GM Children’s Board was established in 2017. Since then it has played an important role in providing strategic direction to the GM Children & Young People programme and bringing partner organisations together to shape policy related to children and young people in the city-region. Whilst there have been a number of individuals from VCSE organisations attend the Board over the years to discuss a range of topics and organisations such as Youth Focus North West have played a significant role in strengthening the focus on children and young peoples’ voice in the meeting, the Board is keen to strengthen VCSE representation. It is felt this will provide for more rounded discussion on the issues facing children and young people in the city-region and improve connectivity back to a sector that provides a critical role.
Objectives
Whilst the terms of reference for the GM Children’s & Young People’s Board are due to be refreshed over the next few months the primary aims of the Board can be summarised as follows:
- To oversee programmes of work designed to improve outcomes for children & young people in Greater Manchester and improve the effectiveness of services for children in the city-region.
- To oversee the use of available GM level resources to best meet the needs of GM children & young people.
- To provide a space for communication between the GM system and each locality in respect of work relating to children.
- Provide a forum for Board members to hear the voices and experiences of children & young people.
- To provide a forum for effective support and challenge across partners in relation to children & young people policies and service delivery.
- To receive updates and performance reports on key thematic issues relating to children & young and monitor progress against indicators relating to children & young people within the Greater Manchester Strategy.
